The South Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company believes that the way to protect the community, is through participation in drills, classes and attending seminars on a regular basis. Thursday nights, the company has its weekly drill from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m. On these nights, Firefighters use this time for practicing evolutions which they could encounter in the line of duty. To become an Active Firefighter, one must participate and complete the "Essentials of Fire Fighting and Emergency Response" program, which is a 166 hour course that teaches the basics on fire fighting (click here to learn more - pdf). The learning does not stop there; we encourage our members to participate in as many classes as possible to further their skills, knowledge and most importantly, safety.

BVR drill with BEMS

Crews from South Baldwin Volunteer Fire Co. and Baldwin EMS drilled together at Baldwin EMS to practice skills on patient removal from vehicles and vehicle suppression.

BVR class

Members from the South Baldwin Fire Company along with members from Broughton, Library, and Pleasant Hills attended a Basic Vehicle Rescue (BVR) class held at Broughton Fire Station. The 48-hour course is designed to teach rescuers Safety, Patient Assessment & handling, and Extrication at the scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident.

On the finial day of class, the students met at Library Fire Hall for an overview on Large Vehicle Rescue. Students from the class were able to practice on a School Bus that was donated by the Bethel Park School District.

lewistown, pa

Members of the South Baldwin Fire Company went to the Lewistown State Fire Academy to attend Structural Fire Fighting classes. Other Fire Company's in attendance were Broughton VFD, Library VFD, and other members from various surrounding communities.
